Enforcement of the Health Plan Identifier (HPID) final rule has been delayed, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of e-Health Standards & Services (OESS) announced last Friday.
HIPAA covered entities, including healthcare providers, health plans, and healthcare clearinghouses, are not required to obtain a HPID by the November 5, 2014 deadline or use the HPID in HIPAA transactions until further notice.
